The Borno state government has said that it is in a very good position to refresh hope and confidence and celebrate the emergence of a new government of Muhammadu Buhari, who takes the oath of office today as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The outgoing State Commissioner for Information, Dr. Mohammed Bulama, who briefed journalists yesterday in Maiduguri, said the government and the people of Borno state are very hopeful, confident and optimistic that the new government would be responsive to their problems.

He said the state is expecting very much from the new government as it wants the problem of the insurgency to disappear as soon as possible.

“We will look forward towards a very productive relationship and partnership with the federal government led by President Buhari, more so, because it was for the first time in history that Borno was on the same party with the federal government except (for) three brief months during the second tenure of former President Shagari,” he said.

The Commissioner, while enumerating celebratory activities being held in Maiduguri today and throughout the weekend, said today’s inauguration of a new central government would trigger a lot of hope to Nigerians, especially to the people of Borno state.

He confirmed a set of programmes which began yesterday evening with a football march between Borno and Bauchi states’ senior football clubs, followed by a pre-inaugural dinner at Multi-purpose hall of the Government House Maiduguri.

Other celebratory activities include a special prayer at the Central Mosque Maiduguri, followed by an inaugural lunch; and then, a colourful durbar takes place later in the day.

Also during the weekend, a special prayer is held at Sunday service in churches across Maiduguri metropolis, and before then, there would be a football march between members of the outgoing Borno State Executive Council and that of Borno State House of Assembly.
