Need to Know Basis

It’s a door slammed

on reason, a finger closed

in the splintering light,

reaching forward, prodding,

the book is shut.

Maybe I don’t need to know

everything. Maybe being

rude in the name of speaking

your mind is a stumble

on the path to wisdom.

But there is beauty in

asking the right questions

for the right reasons.

Take These Things You’ve Learned

Take this lesson

and give it wings. It

was intended to stay

perched in its cage.

Do not let it wither

like a week-old rose

or dry up like the ground

in a rainless July.

Do not let an author’s

words ignite you in

one moment, and then

let passing out the door

splash a cold stream

on your indignation.
