It isn’t often I am so hooked on a TV drama as I am on the “Murdoch Mysteries” TV series – set in the Toronto of the 1890s.

There are impressive filming techniques throughout, especially the exterior shots to facilitate linking scenes. Also the special lighting effects to remind us of the era within which the storylines take place.

The acting is superb – the lead roles and supporting cast, set and costume designs, sound engineers and other professionals involved. Some faces you will recognise from other dramas/films.

Factually, this series intrigues me as my knowledge did not extend to being aware of the fact that Toronto Police used to wear the traditional British Policeman’s helmet. Even moreso, because back in the 60s/70s I lived in some of the Toronto locations mentioned and was employed in a similar environment to that of the drama.

The storylines portray early forensic concepts and there are some great sub-plots running throughout on all levels by the various actors.

Well done to the script writer(s) for such a great adaptation from the original novels by Maureen Jennings.

To write in historical settings is not easy, both from the perspective of historical accuracy and tone.

Why not check out this series yourself. My congratulations to all associated with this (hit) series.
