The #EmbraceAFamily Campaign by the Kenya Red Cross Society is appealling to all Kenyans, Partners and Stakeholders to join them and help tackle the ongoing drought crisis by supporting one family for a month by donating 3000 Kenya Shillings.

This campaign comes after the Humanitarian Society on January 27, 2017 released a press statement calling for drought appeal. According to the report, the ongoing drought had left 12 Counties at Alarming Stage while 11 Counties were at Alert Stage. In the report the Secretary General of the Kenya Red Cross  Society was quoted as saying, “The effects of the drought are escalating. In December 2016, we had 8 Counties at the alarm stage and in less than a month since then, the number of Counties has risen to 12. This should worry as all.” He further stated that, “we have been working with the Red Cross Movement partners, national and county governments, the corporate sector and local partners to mitigate the situation. However, more support is needed, hence, our decision to appeal to Kenyans for support.”

The campaign is challenging Kenyans not to let their brothers and sisters die of hunger and mulnutrition. The campaign challenges the Kenyan Motto, “Harambee” which means ‘let us all pull together’. Kenyans are known for their unity, during the Westgate terror attack Kenyans came out in large numbers to donate blood to help the injured surviors of the attack.

The Country is nearing the Electioneering period and the campaign will help Kenyans elect a leader(s) to come up with implementable Policies on Drought Mitigation. People are dying and if the prolonged drought persists our fellow brothers, sisters and children will continue to die unless Kenyans join in the campaign and Embrace a Family.
