Nicola Sturgeon may be sealing her own fate

Nicola Sturgeon has painted herself into a corner by thinking it is now or never, to push for another Scottish Referendum.

The Scottish Parliament has to give permission to seek authority from Westminster, and then the matter is put to Mrs May, as UK Prime Minister, for her official approval, but whom has already stated such a request would be denied at this time whilst Brexit talks are endeavouring to achieve a good deal, not only for Scotland, but the whole of the UK.

Mrs May has stated in Parliament that the link with Scotland goes back three hundred years, three centuries, whereas in comparison, any association with the EU is only forty years.

She added, that the two countries had fought together, worked together and had various associations and common values. To be truthful, it highlighted the betrayal that Nicola Sturgeon was seeking to inflict!

In essence, the Prime Minister stated that Scotland would be leaving Europe along with the rest of the UK, and that the Scottish people would have an informed choice later, post Brexit, when the outcome was known… but now was not the time.

Nicola Sturgeon is, as one would expect, positively fuming with anger and I would not be surprised if she held an unofficial dummy run with her own referendum in Scotland.

Who will it include – descendants of Scots living elsewhere – those who are children of one, or both parents who are/were Scottish?

Any Sturgeon sponsored mock referendum would be just that, and not recognised as being above suspicion. It would carry no weight regardless of outcome.

Many feel, and I concur, that she has not sensed the mood of the Scottish people as they do not seem to want yet another referendum at this time, therefore it is a very risky strategy to adopt – the odds are she will lose in her drastic bid.

Another thought is this.

Mrs May is an astute negotiator and planner, so it would not surprise me in the least if she achieved a stonking result in her negotiations with the EU, not just for Scotland, but the whole of the UK as she has stated she would be seeking.

If so, then why would the Scottish people wish to leave the UK?

It is time for them to be told that Nicola Sturgeon has yet to advise how their Nation would be protected if they left the UK and the submarine base and ship building went elsewhere at some convenient stage. They are pressing for more protection at sea from Mrs May as it is.

What currency would they use as the Pound is not available? What about the Monarchy and The Queen’s Coronation Oath, the Scottish Regiments and their allegiance to the Crown?

Hard borders would be sought by the English and individual passports required.

Nicola Sturgeon is speaking as if it would still be business as usual if Scotland chose to leave the rest of the UK which is insulting not only to the English but the remaining constituent countries of the UK.

As it is, Nicola Sturgeon may not be re-elected as First Minister by the time another Scottish Referendum was possible and if life, post Brexit, was good for everyone then why would the Scots wish to leave the Union.

Nicola Sturgeon and supporters have been entrapped by their own heat, blustering and ‘blether’, or perhaps the better expression would be to say they have been hung by their own petard!

It will be such a pity though, if the Scottish people are deceived sufficiently to believe they should emulate their present First Minister.
