Stand Up. Stand Proud

Your belly won’t go empty

And there will be more to go around

This is the “United” Kingdom

Stand up. Stand proud.

Don’t step over your neighbour

Sleeping on the streets

Don’t let our cities crumble

Forced to beg

At foodbanks

For something to eat

This is the “United” Kingdom

Stand up. Stand proud.

Share and share alike

Is what we said at the playground

Think of others is what your mother drilled into you

So all can sleep safe and sound

This is your “United” Kingdom

This is our “United” Kingdom

Stand up. Stand proud.

David R Mellor

Born 1964, (Liverpool, England) difficult birth, didn’t find my voice until my youth. Years of thinking I was nobody and treated as such. However, hit the paper papering over the scars. Found understanding and belief through words. I have been published and performed widely from the BBC, The Tate, galleries and pubs and everything in between.

My poems are autobiographical, others topical and several my take on life. Hope you enjoy reading as much as I have enjoyed writing. Please feel free to share your thoughts on links below.
