The Draft

It started in the 1980s,

And you can check the trends,

Make the connections,

Follow the power cords

To where

They plug

Into money outlets,

And don’t be fooled –

Trickle-down economics

Replaced the need

To have a draft.

So when the budget is passed,

Expect a global event

To raise patriotic emotions

And tell the unemployed

They are welcome

To volunteer.
