The Marcetelli village narrated by the Treccani encyclopedia

Marcetelli village in 2010 with its 92 residents, turned out to be the smallest municipality per number of inhabitants of the province of Rieti.

“About a year and a half ago the Istituto della Treccani – Italian Encyclopedia of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, addressed the Municipal Administration of Marcetelli. It notified us of having been picked as the first village for a cognitive survey regarding a new project they accomplished, called ITALIA IN PICCOLO” (Little Italy or Italy in miniature), said Councilor Jessica Tiberi, who warmly welcomed the plan.

It is a “voyage” which flows through our mainland that entails a self-discovery of municipalities with fewer residents of each region of Italy with the aim to track down, highlight and to communicate their social identity, historical heritage, craft traditions, typical recipes and diversity of their cultural and natural heritage.

The passage in our town (the smallest in Lazio) also has helped to film an additional documentary made of four distinct trailers with voiceover, designed to portray the richness and variety of the distinctive features of this community:

Marcetelli – the town

Marcetelli – the cultural and historical heritage

Marcetelli – the  crafts

Marcetelli –  the food and wine traditions

The municipal authorities thank the Istituto della Treccani for this selected editorial experience, which paid homage to the small Italian local communities meant as guardians of our collective memory and our cultural identity, as well as to our know-how and our know how to live – savoir vivre.

However, special thanks are due to the publisher Luciano Vanni and to all his collaborators present on our territory during the shooting days.

The project itself provides a broader vision of what this vessel of treasures, called Italy has to offer, thus fueling that slice of tourism – cultural and gastronomic tourism – so much requested today and increasingly accessible to the majority of the population of all age groups across the world.
