The De-Deplomacized Zone

In the absence

Of America’s top diplomat –

With no Secretary of State

To negotiate any deals –

Korean leaders,

North and South,

Have met at the DMZ

To celebrate peace

Being worked out

In a common language

With mutual interests

Focusing on a future

For the peninsula

Haunted by the ghosts

Of soldiers

Who have to wonder

If their deployment

Was any more

Than a business venture.

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
