The Demilitarized DMZ

With a promising backdrop

Of Korean leaders –

North and South –

Smiling,

Shaking hands, holding hands,

And stepping over

Into each other’s country

At the demilitarized DMZ,

The US Secretary of State

And the President’s

National Security Advisor

Have re-involved themselves,

And the news coverage

Is back to reporting

Conflict,

Unrest,

And cancelled summits…

Peace never seems

To sit well

With America.

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
