Hope For The Living

When our day darkens,

all light and life sucked out thoroughly

Alone in the darkness

Pondering how it came to be

A series of thunder claps

Sends us cowering

And tangles our knee

And we do not know which way to go

Fastened tight against the rope

Dealt brutal by life’s sucker punches

A crazy jab in the abdomen

An upswing hook sends us flying

A powerful kick in the groin

Black eyes. We black out

And we are dragged away on the rough earth

Like a heap of wet meat

And we find ourselve in the gabbage, dirt-tangled

But then,

there is a HOPE,

like a drop of crystal on a thirsty earth,

like a lone star on a gloomy night sky,

Although like the crystal mirage

ahead of a thirsty sojourner

It seems myopic

Dull and unrealistic

But like the glow of another dawn,

A faint breath

A momentary blink

A grain of maize fell to the floor

We could heal

We could get back on our feet

We could blossom like a tiny seed

into a big tree

As long as there’s another day of sunrise

We could live truly again
