The Greatest Shame

The American reaction

To seeing a caravan of refugees

Slowly rolling

Towards a peaceful

Passive invasion

Has revealed

The greatest shame –

Those huddled masses

Still believe in

The idea,

The ideals,

The hope,

The Dream,

And the saving grace of asylum

While United States citizens

Have become polarized by division

Letting the fear of losing

The soul of the nation

Take away

The soul of the nation.

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
