Just Like “Four Dead in Ohio”

My President just threatened me

With the violence

Of power and numbers,

And if I see

A mob of people

Wearing brown shirts

And black boots

Storming through

Blue-state cities

And across the campuses

Of universities –

Where education

Has folded its hand

Without betting –

I will see history

Vetting its own events

And repeating itself

With chain-of-command orders

To pull the trigger

On the rights of the Constitution

Leaving fellow countrymen divided

…and dead.

Ben White

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
