The Government of Uganda and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi appealed over the week to the international community for urgent and massive support for the thousands of South Sudan refugees who continue to arrive in Uganda every day, fleeing brutal conflict, compounded by the limited availability of food.

UN appeals for urgent funds for famine-hit South Sudan

Concluding a two-day visit to South Sudan – two weeks after localized famine was declared in Mayendit and Leer counties – the Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Stephen O’Brien, called for immediate and unhindered access to people in need of aid and urgent funding for the humanitarian appeal.

South Sudan Bishop has doubts on nation’s reconciliation

Santo Laku Poi, the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba, recently casted doubt on the possibility that reconciliation for South Sudan will work. He said the war torn country’s reconciliation is being forced by leadership on citizens whose hearts are still broken.
