The Lady and the Curtain
By
A curtain of shells cascaded gracefully separating her parlour and foyer
They were miniscule crustaceans and money cowrie dangling so precariously
The imagine burnt into the mind to never forget
She was the crazy lady; well that’s what they said
Walking past her house always holding your breath
Running like the devil coming for your soul!
You will get disease of an upside mind
Reflection behind stain glass door imaged womanly figure
Curious as most children are, staring at opaque design
Frozen in time a trickling down my leg
Beautiful, graceful women stepped back in moment
Confused as most would be
No one reported a partner living with unwell!
She smiled and it brightened beautiful face
I could not do anything but grin back!
Floating down the steps, took hold of my hand
Next thing I knew, I was in her house
Head could not stop spinning
There were things of curiosity that delight
Domestic help seem to come from no where
Ornate silver tray filled with culinary sugary delights
She did not speak but beamed
Time closed in on me
Standing stately and refined, her hand she took in mine
There was another way out
A curtain of sea life gripped the walls
Feeling like an eternity as I fleeted through
Some memories we never forget
A curtain of crustaceans and cowries too
Childhood recollections are all too few
This one remains a reminiscence of mystery
Within the Light
By
Beauty surrounds, engulfing soul, wrapped in cocoon
This took great span of life seeing beyond window before eyes
There is suspended animation to whom light is bright
Darkness prevails at moment’s time
There will be silence of the lions
But before us, lambs do lie
Move away the heavy, cumbersome curtain
Heaven and Earth only inches away
Baby steps is secret to brightness
Momentum of now brings silence to spectator
Gush of wind brings back to beginning
When the epoch arrives, fight with last breath
There is a flash of pondering with breath so velvety
Realizing occasion where entrance is here
Shadows now riding wind
Birds are glorious in song
Sun brighter and blinding
Words are silky rides and ears no longer recognize poison
The breath comes naturally
The here is heard deep from the soul
Contentment, peace, and joy!

Remarkable sizzle! Two widows? A widow and widower?
You can supply the genders as you wish....
Dear Simon, thank you for sharing this perspective that has long awaited its say, especially in poetic format as you have done so beautifully. - Shari
