Wonder Lab Films release first trailer for their one-million-penny movie: Witness the trials and tribulations of no-budget independent filmmaking.
Wonder Lab Films and director Michael Anton have unveiled the first trailer for their mockumentary on the trials and tribulations of independent filmmaking, The Great American Movie Hustle.
The Great American Movie Hustle follows independent filmmaker Michael Anton and his actor cousin Michael Monsour (Richard Linklater’s Everybody Wants Some! Bad Trip) as they scrape around to finance their latest cinematic adventure.
The parody is presented in a mockumentary meta format rife with old-school slapstick humor as the duo navigate the twists and turns common to indie filmmakers – and more. They fight ninjas, party with carnies, blow up buildings and get up to just about anything else the local sponsors require, in return for the all-important investment to keep the film afloat.
Shot throughout western Pennsylvania and Los Angeles, The Great American Movie Hustle is in post-production as the team explores distribution options.
“Feedback for the rough cut has been overwhelmingly positive,’ said Michael Anton. “It took 12 years of blood, sweat and tears to make a micro budget film that could be so commercially viable. The best part is that I was able to embark on this challenge with Michael, who has grown into one of the most gifted actors I have ever worked with.”
This is the fourth time that the two Michaels have worked together on a film project: Potheads The Movie, Dead in Texas, Bad Trip, and the Great American Movie Hustle.
