Having survived the schemes Mrs Thatcher put in place to make life hard for the unemployed during her reign, I had hoped that things might have improved by 2017.
When one reads this account it seems there is still little compassion around.
Leaving aside the issues some may raise as to any related weight issues and associated factors which caused this sad death, and which was probably precipitated by stress over the loss of a job, the facts remain that Lawrence Bond was obviously unwell and unfit to work in many if not all occupational environments. He needed support within ‘the system’.
Why is it that we are told we have to give bonuses to stockbrokers and bankers to keep them in this country yet the flip side of this metaphorical and actual coinage is that another person has no commercial worth in the thinking of some in powerful positions which control the life and circumstances of others?
What Legislative right does the Job Centre (or current name for same – at least the repeatable ones) have to write to Doctors with instructions not to issue any more sick certificates and run confidential networking informing doctors it is their (grubby) secret between the Government Representative Department and the Doctor, so therefore probably not subject to disclosure applications to the patient or their Families? Not many people know or have seen these letters. They do exist.
To the Sister and any other family of the late Laurence Bond, and others with similar stories, I, as a fellow human being, would like to extend my sympathy.
If everyone in Authority and Commerce and Companies whose owners worry so much about losing profits post Brexit stopped for a minute to see just how lucky they are compared to some, then they may get a more true perspective and appreciate what they have already.
The Bible mentions the low commercial value of a number of tiny sparrows yet assures us how valuable they are to God and therefore He also values us – the famous song lyrics tell us His Eye is on the Sparrow and I know He (God) watches me!
There are many forms of blood money, different levels of extremes, but one category must surely be relevant to this story.
Give unto Caesar that which is Caesar’s (coinage of the Realm in taxes and dues, etc).We should also remember that God created Caesar – it is the power money has on those that controls its use and distribution which determines if it is dirty money or not. You decide?
