Thomas Demetrio, is the name of a Chicago Lawyer which commands respect, (and again, currently, as he seeks to achieve considerable damages on behalf of his Client, Dr Dao), as this ‘Perry Mason’ styled Lawyer is accustomed to taking on the airline industry, inclusive of fatalities through plane or helicopter crashes, etc, so his latest client’s circumstances, that of being forcibly dragged from his legally purchased airline seat (before the United Airlines plane had even left the tarmac), will probably go straight to settlement in an effort to initiate ‘damage limitation’ for this airline.
Dr David Dao, the victim in all this could end up having multiple claims against not only United Airlines, but that of the City of Chicago itself. Then what about Airport and/or Police Security, not to even begin with issues of civil rights, and reasons why he was chosen to be evicted from the plane in the first place?
From what has been inferred on social media platforms following the visual clips of the incident going worldwide, we learned Dr Dao was denied returning to his medical patients, so the impeding of his professional practice and third party treatments thereby also affected, is yet another facet.
All that is preceded, of course, by Dr Dao’s injuries (concussion and facial, i.e. broken nose and bleeding therefrom, caused by being physically dragged from the plane itself) and humiliation in public through suffering such a degrading moment, inevitably filmed and which his patients will be able to view. Likewise potentially new patients may now decide against seeking his medical help, as if he really must be what the Airline referred to him as being, namely that of a ‘belligerent passenger’, which remark was slanderous and they soon u-turned from that reference and terminology of course.
No wonder their stocks and shares have taken a swift descent to land at a lower altitude, i.e. an Airport known as ‘humility’ in the province or State line of ‘respect’.
Only recently, I heard a discussion regarding the lack of values these days, so ‘respect’ is its first victim.
We are so used to be being controlled by City Hall, and big Corporate Cathedrals representing its God of money, that ethics and morality have no seats for them during choir practice nights – which are spent rehearsing seat eviction procedures instead.
This whole ethos of ‘over booking’ and small print regarding terms and conditions of purchasing airline tickets needs looking into, as in other environments that would, no doubt, be considered fraud, at least, thereafter compounded by physical, mental and psychological abuse thereafter, (also its own internal form of corruption, spilling over into external ticket selling), leaving anyone in such circumstances being nervous to fly again.
There are those who think the Airlines Executive, who originally praised the Security ‘bouncers’ for dragging a ‘belligerent passenger’ from one of their planes, should be similarly dragged from his own office and Executive job and then see how belligerent he might become during his descent to a different job or to join the unemployed.
