Emmanuel Macron – France’s new Sun King?

Mr Macron is delusional, it is being said, regarding his latest love letter to European countries outlining dreams for an even closer European Union.

He is also undermining present negotiations between the EU and UK (but then who isn’t), saying Britain may wish to return once his dreamed ‘Sun King’ Pageant plays out.

The snag is, as Mr Macron proposes an Army of Europe (led by whom?) he overlooks that Great Britain’s Sovereign and Head of all Military Forces is Queen Elizabeth II.  To take The Queen’s Shilling, means that all the UK military personnel give unwavering allegiance to their Sovereign.  Though I think the Royal Navy (as Senior Service) do not have the same technical requirement in that term but do in principle.

A point which I have stated previously, is that Nicola Sturgeon has not factored in where she would glean her own independent Army and currency from if separating from the UK and setting out any Scottish stall to attract Europe.

My, how history repeats itself with that kind of alliance.

Britain wants to leave Europe presently to have control once more over its Sovereignty, Laws and Borders.  Given Mr Macron’s anticipated stalking of Britain, David Davis (UK’s Exiting Europe Minister), would do well to include a safeguard caveat in any negotiations or agreements (if Britain does not just walk away) resulting from present talks with the EU.

Apparently, a European Army would, according to Mr Macron, allow challenges to Russia’s encroachments.  Well some words butter no parsnips if WW1 and WW2 are anything to go by.

Does the Sun King only want Britain for its Trident capacities, given nuclear capabilities of Russia? Further, he continued, a European Army would complement, not usurp, NATO.  Isn’t it better to upgrade NATO?

Then the Sun King turned his remarks to Taxes (no doubt to pay for his Pageant, dancing and prancing). That again, would undermine Sovereignty and Armies of individual countries – taxes being paid domestically therein.

Then other issues cover green matters.  However, not everyone is convinced on that subject and certainly not to the extent of the Green Party.

As for countries being closer to aid security issues and new IT developments, one can do all that without holding hands with Europe.

The Sun King may have been inspired by the energy of the sun, but we all know the warning of Icarus.
