A 180-degree turn

The revolutionary ardent

Bordering on a prophet

For democracy’s advent,

Upon grabbing

The rein of power,

With a superb

Acrobatic bent,

For a tyranny

An example set

For political thugs

To emulate.

Fresh two decades later

Although fate,

Distance and time

Cruelly put asunder

You an indifferent girl

And I, a self conscious

Boy lover,

Two decades later,

I saw you

A mesmeric lady

With a son

And a daughter,

Full of life

And laughter.

Once again,

Your voice

In my cloud

Shrouded-heart

Rang a bell

To a paradise

That could change

A hell!

Impressive poems! Alem, keep up the excellent job of depicting the Ethiopian culture, way of life and thinking by the power of your artistic writing. I praise the lord who abundantly gifted you in writing both in English and Amharic.

Ethiopian poets that pen down poems that reflect our outlooks and observations in the English language are finger counted . Alem deserves a pat on the back for his ambassadorial role in this regard. He write interesting poems.
