In this tin pot country of England, which I call home, there are many things you have missed on landing. Striking up conversations with strangers, the aura of togetherness.
This is quickly blemished when you hear the train is delayed and a collective shrug cascades across the platform of “Oh well, what do you expect.”
In Germany the trains run smooth and clean as that is what people expect. Here we are grateful if a train turns up and if we get a health appointment anywhere.
Germany is not perfect but has a sense of society, they are all in it together.
Here in the endless closed shops I live in between, if you fail, it’s your fault. While in the leafy lanes of the rich south, they laugh all the way to the bank.
David R Mellor
Born 1964, (Liverpool, England) difficult birth, didn’t find my voice until my youth. Years of thinking I was nobody and treated as such. However, hit the paper papering over the scars. Found understanding and belief through words. I have been published and performed widely from the BBC, The Tate, galleries and pubs and everything in between.
My poems are autobiographical, others topical and several my take on life. Hope you enjoy reading as much as I have enjoyed writing. Please feel free to share your thoughts on links below.
