Geographically Mexico has the Pacific Ocean on its westward side. The Caribbean Sea, Guatemala and CARICOM member Belize are south-eastward. An aggressive CJNG cartel expansion fuels most of Mexico’s conflict except the crime spike in Tamaulipas caused by a Gulf Cartel implosion. In the north-west, Tijuana state’s murder rate spiked. The CJNG criminal empire has teamed up with one Arellano Felix Organization remnant aka the Tijuana Cartel in Mexico City.
The novel underworld entity calls itself “Cartel de Tijuana Nueva Generacion.” Its modus operandi is dominate Mexico’s trafficking routes to America. From 2007 to 2010, when the Sinaloa Cartel lacked dominance along the US/Mexico border, members fought the Arellano Felix Organization for control of the Tijuana Plaza. From 2008 until 2012 rivalry between the Sinaloa Cartel and Juarez Cartel propelled the crime and murder rates along Mexico’s eastern border, exclusively Juarez and Chihuahua states.
For the first half of 2018 Mexico’s murder rate was forty-four percent more than 2016. Baja California state, that includes Tijuana, registered Mexico’s highest murder rate, with eighty-seven point four per one hundred thousand residents. With three months remaining in 2018 Juarez’s eight hundred and forty murders already surpass 2017’s seven hundred and sixty-seven killings. CJNG emissaries operate in conjunction with Nuevo Cartel de Juarez, La Linea and Los Aztecas Cartels in the battle against Sinaloa Cartel and associates Artistas Asesinos, Los Salazar, Los Mexicles and Cartel Del Tigre.
CJNG’s corporate echelons desire control of the financially lucrative Guanajuato State fuel theft racket. Reports identify Salamanca city as home to Mexico’s fourth largest refinery and epicenter of fuel theft. The Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel dominates the illegal petrol scheme in Guanajuato, a district CJNG and Los Zetas splinters routinely invade. In August 2018 a CJNG members electronically broadcasted a propaganda video that vowed to vanquish the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel from the Salamanca and Guanajuato districts.
As reinforcement of the threat five CJNG “narcomantas” or warning posters were displayed around Salamanca. On Wednesday August 15, 2018 Mexican Federal Police detained thirty CJNG members at a hotel in Chiapas town Tapachula on Mexico’s border with Guatemala. The town is recognized as a major overland trafficking channel from South to Central America. The CJNG, La Familia Michoacana aka Knights Templars and the Beltram Levya Organization tussle for control of the poppy growing districts. Extortion demands in Guerrero state forced FEMSA/Coca-Cola, Pepsi Cola and other brand name businesses to suspend operations.
