Divided We Sleep

As loud

As they get

At the president’s rallies,

The Make-America-

Great-Again people

Still don’t make enough noise

To wake up

Their own insights

Into the critical thinking

It takes to live

In a country

With the rich diversity

Of race

And thought

And ability

And needs

And dreams,

Where extremes

Separate and polarize

The principles

Of united we stand.

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
