The second session of training and retraining of the Congolese National Police (PNC) at Uvira territory in South Kivu started last week.
Initiated and organised by the United Nations civilian police and peacekeeping force, MONUSCO in Uvira, the training being covered the security of the electoral process.
The Administrator of Uvira territory, who chaired the opening ceremony of the second session, has a hundred agents at the Urban Office and Mobile Intervention Group (GMI) of Uvira. During the two weeks planned for the training session, several modules will be reviewed by the trainers: General Intelligence, Restoration and Maintenance of Public Order, Gesturing Technical and Professional Intervention (GTPI) and the electoral process.
According to MONUSCO in Uvira “this training session generally aims to equip the Congolese police with the means of a legal framework for their actions on election security, teaching them professional methods and techniques to secure good future elections.”
The training sessions are conducted by a multidisciplinary team of the United Nations Civilian Police, the Congolese National Police, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Red Cross and the United Nations Joint Human Rights Office (UNJHRO).
