The Council of Ministers in the South Sudanese Transitional Government of National Unity have agreed to release 224 prisoners of war.
In their second sitting, the Minister of Information and government spokesperson Michael Makuai Lueth said the two parties will discuss the process on how the POWs will be freed.
According to the council’s meeting, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army, SPLA in Juba, will free 59 prisoners of war they captured from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – In Opposition, SPLM-IO, who will in turn also free 165 POWs they captured from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement, SPLM, Juba, in the two conflicts in the Nation.
Discussions on the long awaited resolution on cantonment areas for rival forces in the country, in addition to the subject of the twenty eight states and their status are due to be held in the near future.
Elsewhere, a Holy Spirit missionary worker is dead in a Nairobi, Kenya hospital days after being shot by an unknown SPLA soldier patrol in Yei Town.
According to eyewitnesses, Veronika Terezia Rackova was driving with a pregnant mother in an ambulance when the vehicle was shot at by soldiers patrolling the area.
The State Information Minister Stephen Ladu confirmed the death of Rackova, stating that the government and entire Yei Town are grieved and heartbroken by the death of Rackova.
Three suspect have been arrested in connection with the incident .
