1984 Lives On

This morning

As I do every morning

I picked up the newspapers

Turned on the TV

Drank a snarling cup of hot java

And contemplated the dawning day

And what did I see

The President of the US

Talking nonsense and lies

Nothing but lies

About this and that

And the other thing

Then I saw the commercials

For all the candidates

For president

In the greatest democracy

The world has ever known

All of them

Sprouting lies

About this and that

And the other thing

All promising the moon

All promising good jobs

Great benefits

All we had to do

Was to sell our soul

To the highest bidder

Then it dawned on me

What was wrong with this picture

The world of 1984 had arrived
