She didn’t get much press

Because she was one

Of only two victims

In the latest school shooting

And there wasn’t much

Public interest

In a story

Not gory enough

To grab the attention

Of a nation

Infatuated with large volumes

Of maximum destruction

Where people have turned

Too callous to be affected

By one brain-dead girl

Being taken off life support

In the dark

Maryland night.

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
