my politics

i try to live my politics

in my heart &

soul

get it out of my head

where it is impotent

my politics

are my politics

&

they will step aside

to allow human dignity

march ahead of all politics

my politics

are not an institution

it never demands obedience

b/c my politics

lives in my heart &

soul

not in the head

not dead

not impotent to life

Coffee in Alabama

Stella’s Cafe and Pastries

Clarence is having coffee with his buddies

Travis

Steve

Dana

They are all around 65   all white

They are discussing the price of peanuts and soy beans

Last year’s worst hurricane season

And Steve’s new great-granddaughter

Cole enters

He waves at Clarence

Clarence calls him over

They shake hands

Cole shakes hands with Travis Steve and Dana

Kind and friendly words are exchanged

They asked about the well-being of each other’s wife

Cole is sorry to hear about Dana’s wife cancer operation bowels

Clarence and Cole bid each other good day

Cole joins his buddies on the other side of the cafe
