Rain-Bow

(Ambiguity intended… Bow – to end)

1994

a nation revising

anticipation rising

apartheid capsizing

prisoners released

a rainbow nation unleashed

2018

a nation coloured with rainbow hues

of bloodshed red upon its crews

the oranged sun setting on our hopes and dreams

yellow-ed warning signs and unheard screams

palms rubbing palms with notes of green

the maudlin blues of its people unseen

royal shades of violet, our leaders adorn

while a nation of hope – now colourless – mourn

bright pigments of the coloured rainbow

now fading into darkness of despair

a nation helpless, hopeless, forced into prayer!

Chantal Sam Moodaley is an author and poet from Port Elizabeth in South Africa. Her first book entitled Bible Stories for Kids was launched in 2017.  Chantal uses her poetry to address social ills as well as a tool to speak to ordinary people facing everyday problems in the world we live in today.
