ON GETTING A MAMMOGRAM
By
She kneads my breast
flattens it like bread dough
pulls out the center
and plops it on the counter,
a fresh morning treat.
S-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-s
it out of shape
presses cool plates,
StIcKy fingers she
finagles away
from the buns,
says to FREEZE!
I take a deep breath,
close my eyes
hear my friend
singing…
I Will Survive
I will survive
As long as I know how to Love
I know I’ll be alive
…center stage
last October,
but she didn’t.
I inhale, exhale, relish the treat.
ON THE EXAMINATION TABLE, WAITING
By
Embattled
in an affair with impatience
after one cooking show too many,
you think your paper gown an apron
-the doctor, sushi
for lunch.

THE SMILING LINE
Nothing but the sea
All along the look
That stands clear and wide
As it always is
Nothing but the sea
Under the rock
Where birds are breathing
Like the sound of a tear
Sons of dragons
Riding on dolphins
Ghost archers of the wind
Telling tales of the unexpected

OMG .. love these! This line sticks with me, “the doctor, sushi
for lunch.” Perfect!
Yes, packs a punch – directly to the heart of all women. Wonderful writing.
These are both lovely. The first one captured EXACTLY that feeling – plop!
Wonderful poems! It’s like a quilt of memories, all composing a very special piece.
Two absolutely wonderful & extremely powerful poems ~*
Laurie, these are just excellent, each of their own poignant power…but together: WOW.
Excellent work. I especially like the first one, Laurie. I like the transitions in it.
