december afternoon walk

lonely sparrows hunt for food.

i’m lost in thought – the light of mind

is cold and planetary.

overcast days move like silent trees.

two men swoop by arguing politics –

their mouths heating with steaming debate.

but, i think of your warming smile

and waves burst on a moonlit beach.

brisk winds rise and fall

with the rhythm of love.

tonight, we’ll be winter snowbirds

playfully singing.
