Progress: Upon Watching Election Results

Congress is the darkest night

and a nameless fire –

we are blackened breadcrumbs.

We are thousands, maybe millions

of little night moths crowding against

televised window panes to

catch a glimmer of light.

Congress is now, at least, blue –

the bursting overflow of pleasure –

so we are surrounded by

hopeful palm trees,

lemon trees and

mystical birds of paradise.
