Ozymandias II

Emergency Declared

The vast and trunkless legs won’t travel now

Out of the ancient land once so cherished

Where the frown and wrinkled lips won’t allow

Command to regain what’s long been perished

With pedestals marking the emptiness

Mocking the words and heart that fed the hand

Sculpting the passions doomed to lifelessness

Leaving the colossal wreck in the sand

While the landscape stretches past time’s decay

Ridiculing works erected by pride

When humanity’s hope was cast away

Replaced by walls around the terrified

Though statues created for ego fall

In ancient lands no traveler can recall.

Ben White

Author of the books, Buddha Bastinado Blues and The Kill Gene, Ben White thought he was a poet, only to find out he is not a poet at all. He is a witness. What he writes is testimony.
