It’s not exact…
where her novel life was headed
or could have been or would be
going toward a middle
of its beginning.
That course extinguishes
when she’s taken
as a temporary novelty.
No wonder she can’t remember
how she got home
after.

Charise M. Hoge is a dance/movement therapist, performing artist, and writer. Her work in arts and healing has brought wellness programs into hospitals, counseling centers, museums, and businesses. Based on her experience living and working abroad, she co-authored a different kind of travel guide titled A Portable Identity: A Woman’s Guide to Maintaining a Sense of Self While Moving Overseas. Her poetry is featured in various journals as well as her chapbook Striking Light from Ashes and the book Next Line, Please: Prompts to Inspire Poets and Writers. She continues to dance professionally in collaboration with choreographers in the D.C. area, and faithfully blogs at mixandmosspoetry.com.
