Another political party is formed in Senegal, making it the leading country in multipartism democracy in Africa with more than one hundred registered political parties
Dr. Ibnou Taimiya Sylla, the leader of ‘Diisoo’, a new political party in Senegal, said his main objective is to transform the country from a political and economic ramshackle to that of economic prosperity as well as economic independence.
He echoed these remarks at the launching of his political party at the weekend in Dakar.
The party ‘Diisoo’ which literally translates as ‘consultations’ in Wolof; the main language spoken in Senegal. Dr.Sylla however opined that Senegal is going backwards politically and it is high time to inject new blood in the political arena of the country. He warned that politicians should desist from the political manipulations of the electorates by giving out cash donations to buy their votes.
Speaking earlier, a senior member of the party executive hailed the results registered by the party in the last municipal elections. “’Diisoo will soon step up it’s different commissions to cover the whole country” he stated.
A representative of the students’ wing said that Diisoo have “brought hope to the hopeless and will also speak to the voiceless” adding that “no stone will be left unturned in their pursuit to participate in future elections in Senegal.”
Speaking on behalf of women who attended the gathering en masse, Mariama Barrow said “Diisoo have come at a time when many women turn their backs to party politics.”
“We are used by politicians to do all the dirty work during political campaigns, only to be dumped away when they are elected to power” she stated angrily.
Dr. Ibnou Taimiya Sylla, the brain behind this new political party, is an engineer in telecommunications and currently works in the US but frequently travel to Africa, especially his native country Senegal.
