Why Nicola Sturgeon should count her blessings

1. Along with the Welsh, the Northern Irish, the Crown Dependencies and The Families which constitute the Commonwealth – Scotland can say its name – the English rarely can but are being coerced to call themselves British as a primary setting to facilitate all immigrants who are not. Government and hospital forms also do not, in the main, permit the word England or English to be given as Country of birth, whereas, Mrs Sturgeon, you can say you are Scottish in word and in writing if visiting the rest of the UK. An English person in the Garden of England cannot without being corrected!

2. If the Scottish people do eventually attain majority vote in a referendum to separate from the rest of the UK has Nicola Sturgeon considered the Statutory Document(s) which facilitated the merging of Scotland with England Centuries ago and if Royal Assent is required to separate the two Nations.

3. As Balmoral is Her Majesty The Queen’s private home she will probably still visit if Scotland separates from the rest of the UK (with Mrs Sturgeon’s kind permission of course) but what will the rest of the UK think about ‘their’ Sovereign – whom, unlike the Scots – have not turned their backs on, visiting what will be a foreign Country and who decides if Scotland is part of The Commonwealth Family of Nations – Mrs Surgeon?

4. What about the Palace of Holyrood House which Her Majesty The Queen has to visit to retain State-related/diplomatic facility? There will be no need, Mrs Surgeon going for a hard Scottish style Brexit/Scexit.

5. Whether Trident and Submarine Building or Maintenance moves to England or not, Scotland has free Nuclear protection and risks Nuclear attack for free also as any nuclear strike on the rest of the UK would most likely wipe out Scotland too. The rest of the UK will be paying for Mrs Sturgeon’s cake and eating it too – they won’t like that, neither will the Scots who lose their jobs in those industries.

6. There may be a call for a wall or equivalent defence/boundary between England and Scotland given that history has told us over Centuries that foreign conventional armies favour attacking England via Scotland.

There will be a loss of trust in Scotland if and when it separates from rest of the UK.

7. There will not be any Scottish Pound. The Union Flag would only be permitted for use if Scotland remained in the United Kingdom. The Scottish Flag therefore will be the official one for Scotland and no doubt Mrs Sturgeon will be pleased by that.

Has she thought of costs involved to remove architectural changes where relevant, removing Union Flags and the purchase/installation of more Scottish Flags. Changes of Crests, banners, letterheads, Official Emblems, changes to Coats of Arms on display. The list and expense is endless.

8. If Scotland is in favour of welcoming immigrants in large numbers has Mrs Sturgeon initiated offering free train travel from the rest of the UK, houses and jobs for immigrants to rush to Scotland and be placed ahead of the queue upon arrival – also medical, dental and optical services?

9. The Flower of Scotland to be utilised as the Scottish National Anthem as God Save The Queen can only be used if Scotland is accepted as a Country within The Commonwealth of Nations or if Her Majesty The Queen is invited to make a State Visit to the foreign Country of Scotland. Bearing in mind that would be as popular with the rest of the UK as it would have been if The Late King George VI had gone to the wedding of his brother in Paris of King Edward VIII, who abdicated the Royal Throne in order to marry Mrs Simpson – which is why The Late King (the Father of our Queen) did not go!

10. After Brexit there have been calls for the reinstatement of the former British Passport so Scotland’s Unicorn (Heraldic Symbol), would be removed and Scotland would have to design their own passport.

11. How many times, and in how many ways and languages does Mrs Sturgeon need to be told what Mrs May has already stated (and confirmed by Europe) that Brexit means, that as the whole of the presently existing UK signed up for Europe in the 1970s then the whole of the UK will leave. Europe will probably not welcome Scotland as a separate Country for many years thereafter, if at all.

12. What of families and descendants of mixed heritage, English and Scottish? What rights will they have or in Obama style do they go to the back of the queue? Do not forget, Mrs Sturgeon, reciprocity is in play in both Countries and friction is inevitable within families via anticipated situations such as rights of residency and laws of inheritance of properties. Scottish and English Law have many differences already.

13. Ambassadors will be required in both Countries.

14. Has Mrs Sturgeon had the courtesy to seek Royal Assent (contingent upon political and legal affirmations being realised in all these matters)? Do the Scottish people reject Her Majesty’s Coronation Oath which was for life? Is it legal for The Queen to Abdicate that promise because Mrs Sturgeon wants her to?

15. Mrs Sturgeon may get a shock if she triggers referendum after referendum only to find she does not speak for the whole Nation. After all, divorces are usually final and unrequited love is a hard thing to forgive, presuming the rest of the UK would want to if Mrs Sturgeon’s Scottish dream turns out to be a nightmare.

16. What about the Military Services? Why should the rest of the UK pay for and/or give their names to the same? Mrs Sturgeon will have to rename and pay for all this too, presupposing, of course, that the present Military send back The Queen’s Shilling in an envelope stamped with the image of their new Head of State – Mrs Sturgeon, if a photographer can find her good side.

Independence for Scotland is one thing but the shoddy means by which Mrs Sturgeon rushes to achieve the same is unseemly and a slap in the face to the rest of the UK, but above all in respect to Her Majesty The Queen.

Once and for all, the UK is not going to accept free movement within Europe, ergo no single market.

Mrs Sturgeon would do well to read British History and ascertain what made Britain Great, long before she was born.

The UK was fine before it joined Europe. Scotland, according to Mrs Sturgeon, needs to cling to the apron strings of Europe.

My own heritage is English and Scottish and my Late Grandfathers and Uncles who were in English and Scottish Regiments, fought and survived, injuries for a few (and some relatives died) would be embarrassed to hear that Mrs Sturgeon thinks so little of their courage when she is so frightened to leave Europe, yet are throwing the baby out with the bath-water with the UK Family and their Monarch who has served Scotland well.

Robbie Burns poem about that mouse springs to mind.

Be careful what you wish for, Mrs Sturgeon, as you might just get it!
